PhoenixPICO BIOS Extensions for Resident Flash Arrays
Phoenix Technologies Ltd. extends its experience in innovative leadership in firmware to provide system enabling support for Resident Flash Arrays with PhoenixPICO Flash Array software. Resident Flash Arrays, or On Board Flash, provide rugged non-volatile storage for a new generation of Special Purpose PCs, including industrial appliances, hand-held appliances, and home appliances. Flash memory has several distinct advantages for use in Special Purpose PCs, including low power usage, high speed, no moving parts, and no need for refresh power.
PhoenixPICO Flash Array provides key PhoenixPICO BIOS extensions to support this storage technology by allowing the system to load the operating system and applications from FLASH, mapping the FLASH drive as an emulated floppy drive A: or as an emulated hard drive C:.
The PhoenixPICO Flash Array code can be executed from ROM or as RAM drivers, depending on the needs of the system designer. PhoenixPICO Flash Array also comes with format and preparation tools to speed manufacturing and shipping of the platform. PhoenixPICO Flash Array can be used in a variety of mission critical systems, providing rugged, stable, and long lasting storage support.
Designed for Easy Integration
This flexibility is enhanced by the PhoenixPICO Flash Array design, which integrates seamlessly into PhoenixPICO BIOS, which has quickly become the leading firmware solution for the Special Purpose PC market. Clearly documented and supported by our Phoenix engineering offices around the world, PhoenixPICO Flash Array provides a robust software support for Resident Flash Arrays.
PhoenixPICO Flash Array includes a Hardware Specific layer that can be easily adapted to the target platform. In addition, PhoenixPICO Flash Array doesnŞt require any additional system ROM space, as the support code can be stored in the target Flash Array itself and accessed during boot.
